Kemenko PM Gathers Aspirations to Strengthen Domestic Gaming Industry Policies
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Coordinating Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PM) is directly gathering aspirations from developers, investors, and practitioners to evaluate and strengthen policies for the domestic gaming industry.
In the National Gaming Ecosystem Public Hearing titled “Strengthening from the Perspective of Gaming Industry Practitioners and Entrepreneurs” held in Jakarta on Tuesday, Deputy for Coordinating Community Economic Empowerment and Migrant Worker Protection of Kemenko PM, Leontinus Alpha Edison, expressed appreciation for the rapid growth of the gaming subsector.
Based on 2025 data, the export value of Indonesian game developers has reached $60.8 million, making it the fourth largest export contributor after the fashion, crafts, and culinary subsectors.
However, Leontinus emphasised the need for transparency in viewing field realities, where the market share of local games in the country is still around 1 percent, while the domestic market is dominated by imported products.
“The government is not standing idle and has pushed for acceleration through Presidential Regulation No. 19 of 2024. The spirit is clear: we want locally made games to be the host in their own country and to shine on the global stage,” said Leontinus.
Through this forum, the government deliberately positions itself as a listener to absorb all inputs, from funding challenges to the dominance of foreign publishers.
Leontinus added that real inputs from practitioners are crucial so that the formed ecosystem aligns with actual needs, not just bureaucratic assumptions.
The results of this discussion will later be formulated into concrete steps that are expected to be a game changer for the national gaming industry.
In line with this, CEO of Toge Productions, Kris Antoni Hadiputra, appreciated the Kemenko PM initiative that opens space for open dialogue among practitioners.
His side appreciates Kemenko PM’s step to come down directly to hear voices from the ground. According to him, such forums provide new hope that future policies will be more connected to what is faced daily in the studio.
“This is a very positive initial step to elevate local games. Hopefully, it doesn’t just go in one ear and out the other, but from this event, real steps can emerge,” said Kris.
