Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) focuses on preparing young research talent in order to strengthen the national semiconductor talent ecosystem.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto, in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, stressed that the development of the national semiconductor industry must rely on strengthening superior human resources and the courage of the younger generation to become part of Indonesia’s technological transformation.

“This programme is a programme to build our nation’s confidence, to show that Indonesia can also move up a level as a country capable of building a mature industry, a technology-based industry,” he said.

The Minister noted that the main strength of the national semiconductor industry lies in the talents prepared through universities and the national research ecosystem.

He hoped this effort could create outstanding talents within the semiconductor ecosystem within five to ten years.

“Most importantly of all is the human resources, who will form the backbone of all this; of course, the talents of young people,” he added.

The step is intended to position universities as the birthplaces of exceptional talent, applied research, and national strategic technology.

“We want Indonesians to hold their heads high, because we can also compete with other nations that are able to build technology-based industries,” said Brian Yuliarto.

It is noted that Kemdiktisaintek is partnering with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Danantara Indonesia, and the world-leading semiconductor producer Arm in preparing national semiconductor talents drawn from universities, researchers, new graduates, and technical professionals.

In the initial phase, the programme will reach up to 1,000 participants who will undertake intensive Arm-based chip design training over three days and will be gradually expanded to reach a target of 15,000 Indonesian talents.

The development of semiconductor talent also forms part of support for the President Prabowo Subianto’s Fast Results Programme (PHTC), particularly in strengthening the national economy, downstreaming of industry, and digital transformation.
