Kemayoran-Ancol train line reopens

JAKARTA: Starting next month, Jakartans wanting a day out in Ancol Dreamland in North Jakarta will be able to take a train instead of driving there since state railway PT KAI, in cooperation with Dreamland management, will reopen the railway line from Kemayoran in Central Jakarta to Ancol.

The line is being reopened in order to reduce traffic congestion and parking problems in the Ancol complex, since many visitors drive private cars to Ancol in the absence of public transportation.

"We're having some trial runs before fully operating the line," said Ahmad Sujadi, spokesman for PT KAI's Greater Jakarta division, over the weekend.

Sujadi said the electric train would also transport people wanting to continue on to Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta.

PT KAI closed the route in 1999 amid low demand. --JP
