Buyers Consolidators Ltd -- Agents: PT Natabhayu
Many businesses have been forced to buy goods from other
countries due to Indonesia's unstable condition, a condition
which deteriorated even more because of recent riots. The
activities of many factories were disrupted during this time and
customer confidence suffered as a result.
This message was given by David Pawlan, representative of the
owners of Buyers Consolidators Ltd, and Joachim Nova Jusung, the
director of PT Natabhayu.
But the two companies which have been partners since 1987,
with PT Natabhayu acting as the general agent for Buyers
Consolidators LTD, are convinced that the economic crisis which
has devastated Indonesia will be over in a short time. That way,
they said, we will have the opportunity to increase export
volumes.
As a company which is active in labeling, repacking and
quality control services; and distribution services: garment on-
hanger services, state of the art EDI services, air cargo and
freight forwarding services, bar-code scanning, garment finishing
services and consolidation, Buyers Consolidators Ltd has
increased the volume of its exports this year by approximately 30
percent on last year.
"We are having a good export year this year," said Pawlan.
Garments have become a good commodity for Buyers to export and
now make up 80 percent of its total exports. Also in demand is
branded footwear made by companies like Reebok and Adidas. With
the motto The Best in Global Consolidation, and the support of
110 members of staff in Jakarta and Surabaya, Buyers has expanded
its export markets to include America, 16 European countries, 17
Asian countries, Australia and parts of the Middle East.
Its success in reaching a wide market has led Buyers to be
optimistic that it will be at the forefront of a future national
export drive. Indonesia offers Buyers enormous potential through
the availability of professional workers, immense reserves of
natural resources and its strategic location.
The most important improvements which need to be made in the
export sector, according to Pawlan, are to stabilize economic and
political conditions and to provide quality sea transportation
services. These improvements would help ensure that exporting
activities run smoothly and offer the country opportunities to
benefit from increased international trade in the future.
Nova Jusung added that PT Natabhayu was committed to the
strategy for the future mapped out by Buyers and said both
companies were set to face the challenges that lie ahead. He
explained that was why PT Natabhayu made giving the best possible
service a matter of principle and worked to protect the good
relationship it has with Buyers.
Through its cooperation with Buyers, the value of PT
Natabhayu's exports increased from 10 percent to 15 percent at
the end of 1997. This demonstrates the professionalism of PT
Natabhayu's staff of 300 who work at the companies six branch
office in Medan, Panjang, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Denpasar,
and at its head office in Jakarta.
PT Natabhayu, established by George Jusung, started in the sea
transportation business in 1978. By 1980, the company's business
activities had been narrowed down to agency services, where it
found a niche in a fast-growing market. It is, therefore, not
surprising that PT Natabhayu chose Relations are Everything as
the company motto.
