Keep Your Umbrellas Ready: BMKG Forecasts Rainfall Across Most of Indonesia on Saturday
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that most of Indonesia will experience rainfall on Saturday.
BMKG forecaster Masayu Franstika, speaking on the agency's YouTube channel as monitored from Jakarta, warned the public to be alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the regions of North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, and the Papua Highlands.
Regarding weather conditions in major cities, starting with Sumatra, Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, and Bandar Lampung are forecast to receive light rain.
"Jambi City will be blanketed by thick cloud cover, and residents should be alert for rain that may be accompanied by lightning in the Tanjung Pinang area," said Masayu.
Moving to Java, the weather is forecast to bring light rain in Bandung and Semarang, whilst Yogyakarta and Serang face the potential for moderate-intensity rainfall.
"Be alert for thunderstorms that may occur in Jakarta and Surabaya," she said.
In Kalimantan, the cities of Tanjung Selor and Palangka Raya are forecast to experience light rainfall, whilst Pontianak and Samarinda will receive moderate-intensity rain. Residents of Banjarmasin have been urged to be alert for rain that may be accompanied by lightning.
Moving to Bali and Nusa Tenggara, light rain is forecast for the Denpasar and Mataram areas.
"Be alert for thunderstorms that may occur in Kupang City," said Masayu.
For Sulawesi, light rain is forecast in Makassar, Kendari, and Manado, whilst Mamuju will experience moderate-intensity rainfall.
"Be alert for thunderstorms that may occur in the Palu and Gorontalo areas," she added.
In the Maluku region, Ternate and Ambon face the potential for light-intensity rainfall.
Meanwhile, in Papua, Nabire City is forecast to have thick cloud cover, whilst light rain is expected to fall across Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya. Merauke City is forecast to experience moderate-intensity rainfall.
