Kediri Mayor Emphasises Strict Oversight of Nutrition Service Units to Ensure SOP Compliance
Kediri - The Mayor of Kediri, Vinanda Prameswati, has emphasised the importance of strict oversight of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) to ensure they operate in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). “If we find any non-compliance, we will report it to the BGN. If there are many issues identified, we will recommend closure,” she said in Kediri on Saturday. She made these remarks in connection with the temporary closure of the Tempurejo SPPG in Pesantren sub-district, which resulted from food poisoning affecting dozens of primary school students in the area due to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Field inspections are also frequently conducted, she added, to prevent similar incidents in the future. She further reminded SPPGs that have not yet obtained their Hygiene and Sanitation Fitness Certificates (SLHS) to complete them promptly, as this certificate is a primary requirement set by the BGN for operations. “A few days ago, we held a meeting with all SPPGs, and for those without SLHS, we gave them time to resolve it. Do not exceed the agreed deadline, as SLHS is a main requirement,” she stated. Initially, 69 students reported symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and fever, but the number has now risen to 73. “We have coordinated with the BGN; for now, the Tempurejo SPPG will be suspended. We will await further decisions from the BGN,” said Mbak Wali, the nickname for Mayor Vinanda Prameswati. She explained that laboratory tests revealed the presence of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria, while a hygiene survey found that the Tempurejo SPPG had not conducted organoleptic testing. All findings have been immediately reported to the BGN. The condition of the 73 affected students from the poisoning is now improving, with students returning to school today. However, five children still cannot attend. The Health Department continues to monitor their health conditions. “We have conducted health tests on the children, and their conditions are stabilising. For those not yet attending school, we are continuing to monitor them. Alhamdulillah, none are hospitalised; all treatment is at home,” she said.
