Kebon Pala residential area in Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, was flooded on Sunday morning (8 March 2026) as heavy rainfall across Jakarta and its surroundings since the early hours caused water to overflow into homes to depths exceeding one metre.

‘This morning, the water has reached around 125-150 centimetres (cm) and keeps rising,’ said Joni (38), a resident of RT 13/RW 04 Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta, on Sunday 8 March 2026.

Joni noted that the water began to rise around 22:00 on Saturday (7 March 2026) and continued increasing into the morning, submerging homes in low-lying areas. ‘Since Saturday (7 March 2026), after 16:00, the water started rising, but at 22:00 it climbed further until this morning,’ he said.

The flood, nearly two metres high, submerged household items, vehicles, and cut off access to local roads. According to Joni, the water level could rise further if heavy rain resumes with high intensity and duration.

‘May still rise again because it rained heavily overnight for a long time,’ Joni said.

Despite the significant water levels, no residents have evacuated or taken refuge on the second floor. The floods in this frequently affected area have disrupted daily activities.

Residents continue to wait for the water to recede while monitoring the flood developments. Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast light rain with thunderstorms in parts of DKI Jakarta from Sunday morning to evening.

The Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 39 neighbourhood associations (RT) and 13 road sections (ruas jalan) in Jakarta were flooded due to heavy rain in the area. ‘The floods occurred due to heavy rainfall across Jakarta and its surroundings from Saturday to Sunday,’ said Mohamad Yohan, Head of the BPBD Disaster Data and Information Center.
