KBRI Beijing strengthens education and AI cooperation with Guangxi
Beijing — Indonesia’s Embassy in Beijing is strengthening cooperation with Guangxi Autonomous Region in education and artificial intelligence (AI), including improving the technical capacity of vocational schools in Indonesia.
In 2024, Indonesia and Guangxi signed a vocational education cooperation agreement involving various Indonesian universities and polytechnics with companies from Guangxi that have invested in Indonesia to enhance vocational technical capacity, particularly supporting Indonesian industries.
“Guangxi has significant potential in the AI field that can be utilised not only in developing smart agriculture, but also in healthcare, culture, and tourism. Moving forward, I want to continue promoting the strengthening of partnerships in these areas with Guangxi,” said Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Djauhari Oratmangun in a written statement received by ANTARA on Monday.
Ambassador Djauhari met with a delegation from Guangxi Autonomous Region led by Chen Gang, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Guangxi Autonomous Region, on Friday (13 March).
Accompanied by Deputy Ambassador Irene, Ambassador Djauhari stated that cooperation between Indonesia and Guangxi continues to increase. “Last year, for instance, trade between Indonesia and Guangxi increased 40 per cent, reaching $4.73 billion. Many companies from Guangxi have also invested in Indonesia, such as in the field of green transportation and production of machinery for construction and heavy equipment,” he added.
Djauhari also noted that Guangxi serves as an important connector between China and ASEAN. “Guangxi is the main gateway to ASEAN-China relations, including through the annual ASEAN-China Expo (CA Expo) held in Guangxi’s capital, Nanning. The CA Expo has played a strategic role in supporting the strengthening of ASEAN-China trade cooperation,” he added.
He acknowledged attending the CA-Expo in Nanning several times and considered the event supportive of ASEAN’s export diversification, including Indonesia’s, to China.
Meanwhile, Chen Gang said the AI sector is developing rapidly in Guangxi, with applications extending beyond industry to agriculture. “AI has been utilised to drive increased agricultural production, identification of pests and diseases, and rapid eradication of plant diseases. This application can support food security,” said Chen Gang.
In Nanning, an ASEAN-China AI Application Centre has been established that can be utilised to strengthen AI partnerships, both with Indonesia and ASEAN. Regarding the CA Expo, Chen Gang stated that the annual event continues to innovate, including by promoting the trade of high-technology products. “Besides attending the CA-Expo, I would also like to invite the Ambassador along with the Deputy Ambassador to visit various industrial zones and smart agriculture areas in Guangxi, so that cooperation in these areas can be realised,” he added.
ASEAN is China’s largest trading partner. In 2025, ASEAN-China trade volume reached one trillion dollars, whilst the value of bilateral investment between the two reached 450 billion dollars. Guangxi Autonomous Region, which borders Vietnam directly, is one of the important gateways for ASEAN-China trade cooperation.
