Kayuagung–Palembang–Betung Toll Road Construction Accelerated, Targeted for Completion in 2026
The Ministry of Public Works is accelerating the construction of the Kayuagung–Palembang–Betung Toll Road to strengthen connectivity in the main corridor of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road. Two priority sections, namely Section 1 Kramasan–Sungai Rengas and Section 2 Sungai Rengas–Pangkalan Balai, are targeted for completion in the third quarter of 2026.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasised that the toll road construction offers significant benefits for public mobility and logistics distribution in Sumatra.
“We continue to support this project so that it is completed on time because it provides great benefits to the community,” said Dody in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
Dody stated that the Kayuagung–Palembang–Betung Toll Road has a total length of 111.69 km and is part of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road network. The Kayuagung–Palembang section, spanning 37.62 km, is already operational, while the extension to Betung, spanning 69.19 km, is currently under construction.
The construction of the Palembang–Betung toll road section is divided into three sections: Section 1 Kramasan–Sungai Rengas, 21.5 km long; Section 2 Sungai Rengas–Pangkalan Balai, 33 km long; and Section 3 Pangkalan Balai–Betung, 14.69 km long.
“The current acceleration focus is on Section 1 and Section 2 because both will strengthen connectivity from the Palembang urban area to the northern region of South Sumatra and support smooth inter-provincial logistics flow,” said Dody.
Dody conveyed that the construction progress shows significant achievements. For Section 1, land acquisition has reached 95.43 percent with construction progress at 92.07 percent. Meanwhile, for Section 2, land acquisition progress is at 95.58 percent and construction progress at 89.88 percent.
“Both sections are targeted to complete construction in the third quarter of 2026,” he continued.
As for Section 3 Pangkalan Balai–Betung, it currently records land acquisition progress of 86.15 percent with construction progress at 51.82 percent and is targeted for completion in early 2027. Dody stated that the toll road construction is carried out through a Government Cooperation with Business Entity (KPBU) scheme by the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) PT Hutama Karya (Persero).
He said that the construction work for Sections 1 and 2 is carried out by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, while Section 3 is handled by PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur. Overall, the Kayuagung–Palembang–Betung Toll Road project has an investment value of around Rp14.98 trillion with a 50-year concession period.
“The presence of this toll road will significantly reduce travel time from Palembang to Betung from about three hours to around one hour,” said Dody.
In addition to improving travel efficiency, Dody hopes that this toll road will also smooth logistics distribution, reduce transportation costs, and drive economic growth in the South Sumatra region. The Kayuagung–Palembang–Betung Toll Road section will become an important part of strengthening the main network of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road as the backbone of mobility for people and goods on the island of Sumatra.
