Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has called for the perpetrators of the attack on the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in Karawang Klari Pancawati II, West Java, on Tuesday night (17/3) to be processed through legal channels. According to the nutrition agency, the brutal action was triggered by a personal debt issue that escalated into a conflict and armed violence with sharp weapons in the area of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme facility. “We strongly condemn this action. This is not just an ordinary criminal act, but an attack on a state facility serving the public. We will not tolerate such actions,” stated Deputy Head of BGN, Sony Sonjaya, in Jakarta on Thursday. Based on the official report, the perpetrators arrived on a motorcycle and immediately sought out the security officer on duty. An altercation ensued, leading the perpetrators to brandish a machete and attack the victim within the SPPG area, forcing the security officer to take refuge in the volunteer locker room while the perpetrators damaged the door with their sharp weapon until it gave way and they entered the room. Additional information revealed that the conflict originated from allegations of embezzlement of motorcycle payment deposits amounting to around Rp12 million. Tensions peaked when the victim demanded accountability, ultimately culminating in the attack and destruction of the SPPG area. “We will ensure that the perpetrators are processed legally without compromise. The security of all SPPGs is an absolute priority,” said Sony. He emphasised that BGN would strengthen the security system at all service points by conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the SPPGs, including enhancing security and mitigating field risks to prevent similar incidents from recurring. Currently, the situation at the location is conducive, with security provided by authorities and support from the local community. BGN has assured that MBG programme operations will continue, while tightening oversight to ensure the safety of personnel and the sustainability of services for the public.
