'Karaoke should be regulated'

JAKARTA (JP): Councilors urged Governor Surjadi Soedirdja to issue a regulation on karaoke bars because the bars could lead to prostitution.

Djafar Badjeber. a councilor from the United Development Faction said: "Now, karaoke entertainment is conducted in special rooms without transparent windows. The rooms can also be locked from the inside and even have their own bathrooms."

Djafar had joined a visit to a nightspot Wednesday with other members of the Commission C for City Revenue.

Rusdi Saleh, another commission member from the Golkar faction, said karaoke centers had abused their entertainment permits by encouraging adultery. (ste)
