Karangasem Council Urges Police to Take Firm Action Against LPG Subsidy Adulterators
The Karangasem District Legislative Council (DPRD) has urged the police to take firm action against perpetrators mixing 3-kilogramme (kg) subsidised LPG. The fraudulent practice was uncovered following a raid on an LPG mixing warehouse in the Subagan area, Karangasem, Bali, some time ago.
Chairman of Commission II of the Karangasem DPRD, I Made Tarsi Ardipa, revealed that the perpetrators were mixing 3kg subsidised LPG, or subsidised gas, and transferring it to non-subsidised LPG cylinders. He stated that this practice severely harms poor communities who should receive the subsidised gas melon.
“So far, those using 3kg subsidised LPG are underprivileged communities. If it is mixed, it certainly harms the public because it impacts gas shortages,” said Tarsi on Monday (27/4/2026).
Tarsi hopes that all parties involved in the LPG mixing practice will be dealt with firmly to create a deterrent effect. He also encouraged the Karangasem Regency Government (Pemkab) to be more proactive in conducting field supervision.
“If this is allowed to continue without firm action, there will certainly be shortages in the community,” said Tarsi.
Previously, personnel from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Karangasem Police Resort raided a warehouse suspected to be a location for LPG mixing in Subagan Village, Karangasem District and Regency. The police secured several workers along with evidence at the Karangasem Police Resort.
The Head of Criminal Investigation at the Karangasem Police Resort, AKP Alberto Diovant, confirmed the uncovering of the case. However, he was reluctant to detail the raid. “Still in the investigation stage,” he replied briefly on Friday (24/4).
Based on gathered information, the raid occurred on Tuesday (21/4) in the early hours based on reports from the public. Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Karangasem Police Resort then visited the location suspected to be the place for filling LPG gas.
The police successfully found several people suspected of mixing LPG gas fillings in the warehouse. They were caught transferring the contents of 3kg subsidised LPG gas to 5.5kg, 12kg, and 50kg cylinders.
