Kampar Police Hold Grand Religious Gathering Ahead of Ramadan 2026 with Ustaz Abdul Somad
Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, Kampar Police held a grand religious gathering (tabligh akbar) featuring Ustaz Abdul Somad (UAS) in Kampar Regency, Riau. Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan was also in attendance.
The event, held at the Kampar Police headquarters on Monday evening (16 February 2026), was organised to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. Kampar Police Chief Senior Commissioner Boby Ramadhan Sebayang said the gathering was intended as a moment of reflection, particularly for Kampar Police personnel, to strengthen their faith and devotion.
"We sincerely hope this event can enhance our faith and devotion as we approach the fasting month, so that what we have carried out today can deepen our spiritual commitment," Boby said in his address.
He added that Kampar Police would continue to provide service, protection, and guidance to the community. He also urged the public to play an active role in maintaining security and public order, particularly ahead of Ramadan.
On the same occasion, Kampar Police also issued guidance regarding the observance of Balimau Kasai, urging participants to pay attention to safety, crowd density, and river safety. Police advised the public not to force themselves into the river if the current is strong.
Balimau Kasai is a traditional bathing ritual using water mixed with lime (kaffir lime) and fragrances (kasai), practised by the people of Riau, particularly along the Kampar River. The tradition has been passed down through generations and is performed the day before Ramadan as a symbol of physical and spiritual purification, joy, and community bonding. It is also known as mandi potang mogang.
Meanwhile, Ustaz Abdul Somad said in his sermon that the holy month of Ramadan is not a time for idleness. On the contrary, he called on Muslims to use the fasting month to strengthen their faith and devotion.
"The fasting month is a month of battle. The Battle of Badr took place on the 17th of Ramadan, the war against Israel on the 10th of Ramadan, and Andalusia was liberated during Ramadan," Abdul Somad said.
He emphasised that fasting is not merely about abstaining from food, but also about restraining all desires.
"But when one restrains the tongue in speech, restrains the heart and mind — that is true fasting," he said.
In his sermon, UAS wished the congregation a blessed Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. "May our Ramadan be one of quality, shaping personalities of integrity, and making us people who are mindful of Allah SWT," he said.
