Kalisari Subdistrict Head Nurhasanah has been summoned by the DKI Jakarta Inspectorate to provide clarification regarding the controversy over the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology by Public Facilities and Infrastructure Handling Officers (PPSU) in responding to citizen complaints through the Jakarta Kini (JAKI) app.

“I have been called by the Inspectorate at 10:00 WIB. I’ll be interviewed after that,” said Kalisari Subdistrict Head Nurhasanah when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday (6/4).

The East Jakarta City Government has responded swiftly to the issue that has come under public scrutiny. Pasar Rebo Subdistrict Head Mujiono stated that they had held a limited meeting with relevant officials as an initial coaching step.

The meeting involved the subdistrict head, PPSU officers, and other related officials, and was held at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office after the case drew widespread criticism from the public.

“We gathered all PPSU officers, section heads, and the subdistrict head for coaching purposes so that in the future, AI is no longer used in carrying out duties,” said Mujiono.

According to him, the use of AI in field services is deemed inappropriate because it has the potential to cause misunderstandings among the public. He emphasised that the primary duty of PPSU is to provide direct services in the field, not merely to display digital visualisations.

Nevertheless, Mujiono did not elaborate further on the possibility of sanctions against the involved officers. He stressed that the authority for such actions lies at the subdistrict level.

“Since PPSU is a subdistrict apparatus, the authority for enforcement is handed over to the subdistrict head,” he asserted.

The case surfaced after a social media post circulated showing PPSU officers using AI to respond to a citizen report regarding wild parking on Jalan Damai in Kalisari Subdistrict.

In the post, an officer in an orange uniform was visible at the location. However, the AI-based visual results showed significant differences, such as changes in clothing attributes and the disappearance of several vehicles from the image.

It was these discrepancies between the actual conditions and the visualisations that triggered sharp criticism from netizens. They viewed the action as a form of manipulation that did not reflect the real conditions on the ground.

Based on observations at the site, the road section in that area is relatively narrow, only about two metres wide. Four vehicles were recorded parked on the road body, including one in a rusted condition.

The other three vehicles were known to belong to a nearby car workshop. The presence of these vehicles severely limited road access, forcing road users to pass by squeezed against residents’ house walls.

The situation had previously been reported by the public through the JAKI app in the hope of enforcement. However, the response provided was an AI-based visualisation deemed inconsistent with the field conditions.

The East Jakarta City Government has stated that it will evaluate PPSU work procedures, in addition to internal coaching, to prevent similar incidents from recurring. They also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the quality of public services so that every citizen report is followed up factually and transparently.
