Jakarta (ANTARA) - The head of Kalisari sub-district, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, has been summoned by the DKI Jakarta Inspectorate to provide an explanation regarding the viral use of artificial intelligence (AI) by a Public Facilities and Infrastructure Handling Officer (PPSU) in responding to residents’ reports through the Jakarta Kini (JAKI) app. “I have been called by the Inspectorate at 10:00 WIB. I’ll be interviewed after that,” said Kalisari sub-district head Nurhasanah when contacted in Jakarta on Monday. Meanwhile, the East Jakarta city government has moved quickly to address the controversy. Pasar Rebo sub-district head Mujiono stated that they immediately held a limited meeting with relevant officials, including the sub-district head and PPSU officers, as an initial guidance step. The meeting was held with the East Jakarta Mayor at the Mayor’s Office after the PPSU officer came under public scrutiny and faced sharp criticism from netizens. “We gathered all PPSU officers, section heads, and the sub-district head for guidance so that in the future they no longer use AI in carrying out their duties,” said Mujiono. He emphasised that the primary function of PPSU officers is to provide real and direct services in the field, not mere visualisations or digital manipulations. Nevertheless, Mujiono declined to comment further on sanctions against the officer in question. Mujiono stressed that such authority lies entirely at the sub-district level. “Since PPSU is a sub-district apparatus, the enforcement authority is handed over to the sub-district head,” he asserted. Previously, a viral social media post showed a PPSU officer using AI technology to respond to a resident’s report on illegal parking on Jalan Damai, Kalisari sub-district, Pasar Rebo sub-district, East Jakarta. In the post, the PPSU officer wearing an orange uniform was seen handling the situation at the location. However, after an AI-based process, the visual appearance of the officer changed, including differences in clothing attributes and the disappearance of several vehicles in the processed image. The stark differences between the actual conditions and the AI visualisation triggered strong reactions from the public. Based on observations at the site, the road conditions in the area are indeed narrow, about two metres wide. There are four vehicles parked on the road body, one of which is in an unfit condition or a wreck. The other three vehicles belong to a car workshop operating nearby. The presence of these vehicles severely limits road access, forcing other passing vehicles to squeeze against residents’ housing walls. This condition had previously been reported by residents via the JAKI app in hopes of enforcement by authorities. However, the response that emerged was an AI-based visualisation that did not match reality. This case has become a serious concern for the East Jakarta city government. In addition to internal guidance, steps to evaluate PPSU work procedures will also be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. The East Jakarta city government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the quality of public services, including ensuring that every resident’s report is followed up factually and transparently in the field.
