Kalimalang Transformed into Water Tourism Spot, Bekasi Builds Five Curved Bridges
Bekasi City Government aims to construct five curved bridges in the Kalimalang water tourism area, South Bekasi District. The construction forms part of efforts to redevelop Kalimalang into a new water tourism destination in Bekasi. Bekasi City Public Works and Water Resources Agency (BMSDA) Head Idi Sutanto said one curved bridge has been completed using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. He explained that two other bridges are currently under construction simultaneously on-site. According to Idi, the second bridge is being built through an investment scheme, while the third is being constructed by the West Java Provincial Government. The construction of all five bridges is being carried out in phases, in line with each project’s funding scheme. Completion of the second bridge is targeted for August 2026, while the third is expected to be finished between September and October 2026. Idi stated that the curved bridges are expected to enhance the area’s aesthetics and support the development of water tourism in Bekasi. Some road access must be temporarily closed to support construction work. ‘Construction inevitably causes traffic congestion. Total road closures are necessary due to limited workspace, hence the need for closures,’ Idi said. He added that the road closures are temporary until the main bridge structures are installed.
