JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Several residents of RT 02 RW 07, Kamal, Kalideres, West Jakarta, continue to stubbornly refuse relocation to flats until Monday (6/4/2026).

The reason is that the flats available and offered by the West Jakarta City Government are Rusun Nagrak in North Jakarta, which is too far from their original residence.

In the end, the forced demolition of residents’ houses built on land owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government was marred by unrest.

This refusal was voiced, among others, by Nani, a resident who claims to have settled on the land for 20 years.

“Meanwhile, my job is here, my child goes to school here, my husband works in Tangerang. It’s impossible, it would clash, too far,” said Nani when met by Kompas.com at the location on Monday.

She also expressed confusion because the eviction was carried out without any compensation whatsoever.

On the other hand, Nani admitted that her family’s economic condition is currently very strained, so she cannot afford to rent a house.

“I want to move (independently), but I don’t have the money. I only have Rp 50,000. My husband is sick right now, honestly. My husband is sick, and now we’re told to move,” she revealed.

Although she acknowledges living on government land, Nani feels she still deserves compensation because she has spent money building the house over the years.

“That building didn’t come for free, it didn’t fall from the sky. From nails, asbestos, cement, I even had to borrow to build it, I’ve been here for 20 years,” she said.

In fact, Nani claims to have an official DKI Jakarta ID card addressed to her home.

In response to the unrest from residents’ protests in the field, the Acting Kalideres Sub-District Head, Raditian Ramajaya, admitted that they were forced to relocate some residents to distant flats due to the full occupancy of flats in West Jakarta.

“The problem is that so far, all the flats in West Jakarta are full, already occupied. So according to the Housing Agency, what’s available right now is in Rusun Nagrak,” Raditian explained.
