Kakorlantas Calls on Traffic Directorates to Maximize ETLE-Based Law Enforcement
JAKARTA, VIVA – Head of the Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stressed the importance of a humanistic approach and digital transformation in traffic law enforcement duties. One key step being reinforced is the use of Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) for surveillance and law enforcement. Agus praised the Regional Traffic Directorates (Dirlantas) for actively building communication and rapport with the public, including online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers and various road user communities. Humanistic approaches are crucial in fostering a culture of road discipline. ‘I thank my colleagues in Dirlantas for their efforts in embracing ojol drivers and communities, fostering mutual understanding, and planning to establish the Nusantara Ojol Association,’ Agus said. Ojol drivers are vital members of the public who operate daily on roads and can serve as strategic partners for the police in providing information and maintaining traffic safety and order. ‘These are our brothers and sisters on the roads who can provide information and engage in dialogue. Alhamdulillah, when I visit the field, they are proud to be included,’ he said. Agus further stressed that traffic police approaches now focus not just on enforcement or fines, but also on education, empathy, and closeness with the public. Digital transformation through ETLE is a step towards transparent, modern, and fair law enforcement. ‘Our approach is no longer just about fines or strict enforcement, but about empathy. You must be close to the public, embrace them. When they feel included and engaged in dialogue, they feel ashamed to commit violations,’ Agus said.
