Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Division I North Sumatra is strengthening its strategic role in the national transportation ecosystem by transporting 11,118 kilolitres (kl) of fuel to support the smooth flow of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming in 2026.

Acting Head of Public Relations for KAI Division I North Sumatra, Anwar Yuli Prastyo, in Medan, North Sumatra, on Thursday, stated that the company is also helping to maintain energy supply stability for road transport modes experiencing a surge in vehicle volume during the Eid transportation period.

He explained that the distribution was carried out over eight days, from 11 to 18 March 2026.

A total of 327 tank wagons were deployed via the Labuhan-Siantar and Labuhan-Kisaran routes to ensure timely energy distribution to crucial points.

“The supply of fuel via rail is a vital part of the energy supply chain for land transportation. This contribution directly impacts the smooth homecoming flow and public mobility in the North Sumatra region,” he said.

Anwar detailed that the distribution focused on two main logistics arteries.

First, towards the Kisaran Fuel Depot to meet energy needs in Asahan Regency, Batu Bara Regency, and Tanjungbalai City.

Second, supplies were allocated towards Pematangsiantar to support fuel stocks in the Pematangsiantar, Simalungun, Central Tapanuli, and Samosir Island areas.

This distribution pattern is designed to ensure energy resilience in economic centres and main tourist routes that are destinations for homecomers.

“The rail mode has advantages in large carrying capacity and timeliness, making it highly efficient in supporting logistics distribution amid dense road traffic,” he added.

KAI Division I North Sumatra also recorded a positive trend in passenger transport. Over the period from 11 to 19 March 2026, the total number of customers served reached 75,266 people.

The peak density of the homecoming flow occurred on H-3 Eid, or Wednesday (18/3/2026), with 10,930 passengers.

Meanwhile, on H-2 Eid, or Thursday (19/3/2026), 9,970 passengers were recorded as having been dispatched to various destinations, and this number is predicted to continue increasing as tickets are still available on several routes.

“We see extraordinary enthusiasm from the public, especially for the KA Sribilah Utama and Sribilah Fakultatif services, which are favourite choices for returning home,” said Anwar.

KAI Division I North Sumatra continues to ensure that all operational aspects, both passenger and goods transport, run optimally.

“Our commitment is to provide safe, secure, and reliable transportation services throughout this Eid transportation period,” he said.
