KAI Logistik Ships 12 Locomotives from Sumatra to Java in Preparation for 2026 Lebaran Transport Operations
KAI Logistik, a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), is carrying out the shipment of 12 locomotive units from Sumatra to Java. The delivery is aimed at strengthening operational readiness for the 2026 Lebaran Transport season, ensuring smooth public mobility during the period.
KAI Logistik Commercial Director Fahdel Akbar said the shipment represents the company’s commitment to supporting and serving as part of the ecosystem for reliable Lebaran transport operations. The delivery is being carried out through the KALOG Pro service under its Project Logistics segment, which has specialised capabilities in handling heavy cargo logistics.
He stated that the 12 CC 206 type locomotives, with a combined weight of 1,056 tonnes — each unit weighing approximately 88 tonnes — are being shipped in stages with comprehensive technical planning and integrated cross-functional coordination.
“We are ensuring that the entire shipping process adheres to strict safety and operational standards. Given the significant weight and asset value involved, every stage has been designed with precision to guarantee security and timeliness,” Fahdel said, as quoted on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
Fahdel explained that the locomotive distribution commenced on 18 February 2026, with the shipping route running from the Rejosari Wagon Depot in Regional Division IV Tanjungkarang to JICT Station within Operational Area 1 Jakarta.
“The shipping process is targeted for completion in line with the operational plan, with the possibility of acceleration through optimal and efficient work patterns,” he added.
As a company that holds a Multimodal Transport Business Entity (BUAM) licence, KAI Logistik is able to integrate multimodal schemes into its distribution processes. This flexibility enables the selection of the most effective transport modes, ranging from rail to trucking, including the use of trailers for flat wagons and multi-axle trucks for locomotive shipments. This scheme ensures smooth distribution whilst maintaining safety standards throughout the process.
The trust placed in the company for this shipment also builds upon its positive track record, having previously contributed to the delivery of seven locomotives during the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year Transport period. “This continued trust is proof of our capability in handling high-value railway asset shipments in a professional, reliable, and integrated manner,” Fahdel added.
