KAI Logistics Strengthens FMCG Distribution, Container Handling Capacity Rises to 3,000 TEUs
PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik) has increased container transport capacity on the KALOG Plus service, specifically the KALOG 3 train set, in response to rising distribution needs in the national consumer goods industry. Commercial Director Fahdel Akbar said the company has observed a growing trend in container transport demand, particularly from players in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and manufacturing sectors.
Therefore, since 20 February 2026, we have increased the journey frequency on the KALOG 3 train set from twice weekly to six times weekly. With this addition, capacity has risen by about 67 per cent, from 1,800 TEUs per month to 3,000 TEUs per month, Fahdel said in an official statement on Saturday, 7 March 2026.
Fahdel explained that this capacity adjustment forms part of the company’s strategy to strengthen the rail modality’s role in the middle-mile segment of the national supply chain. He noted that the increased journey frequency is not only about expanding capacity but also about ensuring delivery schedule consistency for customers.
“The service enhancement is not merely to accommodate volume growth, but also to ensure schedule consistency and service certainty for customers. We want to provide a more reliable, faster, and competitive logistics solution for the industry,” Fahdel said.
The presence of transit points is described as a response to rising customer demand in the Klari industrial area, known as a hub for FMCG-related activity. Internal data from KAI Logistik shows container transport volumes in 2025 rose by around 8 per cent year-on-year. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported on 5 February 2026 that the Indonesian economy grew by 5.11 per cent in 2025, higher than 2024. The higher levels of economic activity reflect increased production and distribution of goods, including consumer goods. Additionally, FMCG market dynamics are evident from developments in digital platform transactions.
