The Public Relations Manager of Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, stated that the operation of this facility is being prepared to meet the mobility needs of the community during the Lebaran homecoming period.

“The ‘Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan’ [People’s Economy Class Train] is being introduced to expand access to travel during Lebaran,” said Franoto in Jakarta on Wednesday.

KAI began selling tickets for the ‘Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan’ on 25 February 2026 at 00:00 WIB for the period of 11 March to 1 April 2026. Tickets can be purchased through the Access by KAI application and other official sales platforms.

“Capacity is increased, comfort is improved, and the fare is affordable. This is part of the strategy to maintain a balance between carrying capacity and travel quality when demand increases during Lebaran,” said Franoto.

He explained that the ‘Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan’ is coupled with the additional train service on the Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan route, consisting of five executive class carriages and four ‘Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan’ carriages.

The total capacity of the executive class carriages is 250 seats, and the ‘Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan’ carriages have 372 seats.

The train operates on the 7039 additional Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen service, departing at 06:00 WIB and arriving at 13:56 WIB; and the 7040 additional Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan service, departing at 15:25 WIB and arriving at 22:57 WIB.

Furthermore, he said that this facility is the result of modifications to the previous generation of air-conditioned economy class carriages, carried out by the staff at the Manggarai Rail Workshop. The adjustments focus on the interior and seat configuration to improve the long-distance travel experience.

Each unit has 93 seats with a 3:2 arrangement, which is more ergonomic and spacious compared to the previous arrangement with a capacity of 106 seats. The reversible feature allows the direction of the seats to be adjusted according to the speed of the train, thus increasing passenger comfort.

In terms of fares, it is positioned above the Public Service Obligation (PSO) and below the Regular Economy class. This scheme provides an alternative for people who want an affordable price with better facilities compared to the subsidized economy class.

Franoto added that optimizing existing facilities is part of service innovation to increase capacity in a short time.

“Lebaran requires comprehensive preparedness. Through innovation in existing facilities, capacity is increased and travel quality is improved. Passengers have more choices of schedules and classes according to their needs,” explained Franoto.

Through the operation of the ‘Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan’, KAI is expanding access to public rail-based transportation, supporting the smooth flow of the Lebaran homecoming, and maintaining affordability for various customer segments during the 2026 Lebaran service.
