Purwokerto, Central Java — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (State Railway Company, or KAI) has partnered with Bank Indonesia to facilitate new banknote exchange services for the public at Purwokerto Station in Banyumas, Central Java.

M As’ad Habibuddin, Communications Manager of KAI’s Purwokerto Regional Operations Area 5, stated that the new banknote exchange service will be provided in the waiting area of Purwokerto Station, specifically in the music stage area, and is exclusively for train passengers.

“This new banknote exchange service is a form of collaboration between KAI and Bank Indonesia to provide convenience for the public, particularly train customers, in preparing their new banknote denominations ahead of Eid al-Fitr,” he said.

The service will be conducted on Friday, 13 March 2026 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

According to As’ad, the service is exclusively for long-distance train passengers who already possess valid travel tickets for that day and proper identification.

“We hope this new banknote exchange activity will provide convenience and benefit to our train customers who will be undertaking homecoming journeys, so that preparations for celebrating Eid al-Fitr can be done more effectively,” he said.

For the service, each participant must bring a long-distance train ticket and valid identification in the form of a national identity card (KTP). The exchange is limited to one transaction per national identification number (NIK) and cannot be carried out on behalf of another person.

Additionally, participants must bring cash in the nominal amount to be exchanged and may not use adhesive tape, glue, packaging tape, or staples to bundle their money.

The maximum exchange limit is IDR 5.3 million per person with predetermined denominations: IDR 50,000 notes worth IDR 2.5 million, IDR 20,000 notes worth IDR 1 million, IDR 10,000 notes worth IDR 1 million, IDR 5,000 notes worth IDR 500,000, IDR 2,000 notes worth IDR 200,000, and IDR 1,000 notes worth IDR 100,000.

“This activity is expected to not only provide convenience to train customers in obtaining new banknotes, but also increase public interest in using mass rail transport that is safe, comfortable, and punctual,” As’ad said.
