Kaesang Urged to Continue Jokowi's Legacy During Pesantren Tour

Jakarta — Kaesang Pangarep, chairman of the Solidarity Indonesia Party (PSI), has been asked to continue the work undertaken by his father, the seventh President Joko Widodo, during his ten years in office.

The request was conveyed by Islamic scholars and clerics whilst Kaesang toured Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Kediri, East Java, on Sunday evening, 1 March 2026.

“He met with Gus Kautsar. Then the message from him and from Gus Kautsar’s father (KH Nurul Huda Djazuli) was to continue what President Jokowi had already done. Because what President Jokowi accomplished has been greatly felt and benefited by the community,” said Ahmad Ali, daily chairman of PSI, when met in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Ali conveyed that the clerics saw Jokowi working quietly over the years, with gentle and measured progress.

“And the clerics asked for this to be continued and carried forward,” he said.

Subsequently, according to Ali, PSI officials also visited the residence of Anwar Iskandar, chairman of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI), in Kediri.

Ali stated that Kaesang and other PSI leaders sought advice for smooth political progress and the ongoing Ramadan Safari initiative.

“So that in the future, PSI cadres can be well guided in their journey to begin consolidation. And of course, most importantly, we seek prayers for the safety of the nation,” explained Ali.

Ali said PSI is undertaking a spiritual journey during the fasting month.

“So all the regional coordination meetings are postponed, suspended until after Eid. Then we will complete the structural development at the regional level. I was building it whilst consolidating the Ramadan Safari, continuing consolidation, but the chairman asked the cadres and me to focus more on carrying out spiritual activities in this holy month of Ramadan,” added the former senior Nasdem official.
