The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is urging the government to establish loading and unloading regulations that support an investment-friendly climate for businesses.

Andi Yuslim Patawari, Deputy Chairman of the Kalimantan Region at Kadin Indonesia, stated that Kadin is working to maintain good relations with all stakeholders to create a conducive investment environment for the business sector.

“With clear regulations and rules in place, we want business operators to feel comfortable carrying out their business activities,” Andi said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Kadin organised a focus group discussion (FGD) regarding the implementation of Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfer operations at Indonesian port facilities. The FGD was held as various dynamics have emerged in loading and unloading activities, particularly at STS transfer locations at Indonesian seaports.

These dynamics are considered to have an impact on port operations, shipping activities, stakeholders, workers, and business competition aspects.

Through this forum, Kadin Indonesia brought together relevant ministries and agencies as well as business operators to discuss various issues emerging in the field. The discussion is expected to provide a more comprehensive understanding whilst formulating constructive policy measures.

Andi stated that Kadin brought together various parties involved in regulating ship loading and unloading activities. Various problems in the field can be resolved through dialogue and joint discussions among stakeholders. Additionally, Kadin also emphasised the importance of efforts to reduce logistics costs so that Indonesia can compete in supply chain provision, particularly in the energy sector such as the coal industry in the Kalimantan region.

Meanwhile, Tri Aditya Putra, Assistant Deputy for Organisation and Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Cooperatives, stated that his office continues to encourage improved governance of cooperatives that conduct loading and unloading labour activities at ports.

He considered that a discussion involving various parties is very important so that the government obtains comprehensive input from all stakeholders.

“In the future, discussions like this should also involve all parties, whether stakeholders, field implementers, or other related parties, so that we can obtain comprehensive input and provide the best solutions for all parties,” he said.
