Kadin Forms Verification and Ethics Team in Response to Viral Cilegon Project Fee Allegations
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has formed a verification and ethics team in response to a viral incident involving a Kadin Cilegon member allegedly demanding a share of a project from PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CCA).
"This is correct. Essentially, we at Kadin are forming a verification and ethics team which has begun examining complaints and questions from the people of Cilegon," said Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie, as reported by ANTARA on Tuesday, 13 May.
Anindya made the statement when asked to confirm reports about a Kadin member in Cilegon, Banten, who allegedly demanded payments from entrepreneurs in the area. He emphasised that his organisation had established the team to address various questions and complaints from the public regarding organisational dynamics within Kadin's Cilegon branch.
"As it happens, I am also here with the Vice Chairperson and Coordinator for Food at Kadin, Mulyadi Jayabaya, who is also from Banten, so we are looking into this carefully," he said.
According to Anindya Bakrie, Kadin remains focused on promoting national trade and investment by upholding legal certainty and rejecting all forms of unlawful action and coercive approaches.
As an immediate step, Kadin will hold a meeting with representatives of the Governor of Banten, the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), and law enforcement officials to investigate the issues arising in the Cilegon area.
Anindya Bakrie assessed that the incident was more of an individual matter at the district or city level, and that resolution would be carried out through coordination between regional, provincial, and central Kadin structures.
"Essentially, we understand that 8 per cent growth must be achieved, economic growth must be realised, investment must flow in, and Kadin's role is to safeguard that. So when incidents like this occur, it is more of an individual matter at the district or city level," he explained.
Kadin's Vice Chairman for Law and Organisation will also be deployed to address the matter wisely, swiftly, and precisely in accordance with the values of sound and professional organisational governance.
Anindya reminded that such incidents could damage investor confidence, particularly as Kadin has been actively promoting foreign investment to strengthen the national economy.
Kadin emphasised that Anindya Bakrie has consistently been pro-business, pro-employment, and pro-regional empowerment, whilst maintaining firmness in protecting the organisation's reputation at the national level.
"But we also do not want to rely solely on social media reports — we want to meet people in person. And indeed, Kadin is a large organisation," he said.
