Jakarta — Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) views household consumption activity, which tends to increase during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H/2026 holiday period, as an important opportunity to drive national economic growth.

“Money circulation during Eid celebrations and holidays with household consumption surging by an average of 10–15 per cent represents a catalyst to drive national economic growth in the first quarter of 2026, which is targeted at 5.4 to 5.5 per cent,” said Sarman Simanjorang, Deputy General Chairman of Kadin Indonesia for Regional Autonomy, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Furthermore, Sarman stated that this is supported by overall economic activity in the first quarter, which includes the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays, followed by Lunar New Year in February.

“Therefore, we are very optimistic that first-quarter 2026 economic growth can achieve the target,” he said.

Sarman stated that to maximise this potential, the government together with relevant stakeholders needs to maintain public confidence amidst uncertainty caused by global conflicts.

“What is most important is that the government can maintain public psychology by providing assurances and ensuring that the availability of fuel and gas is always met during and after Eid 2026, so that the public is not hesitant to spend their money in their respective regions,” Sarman explained.

“This is very important because the public is also monitoring geopolitical developments in the Iran-US-Israel conflict, which could potentially disrupt fuel and gas supplies to the country,” he added.

Meanwhile, the government is providing several economic stimulus measures to support consumption and mobility during this year’s Eid holiday period.

Some of these include discounts on land, sea, and air transport; guaranteed disbursement of holiday bonuses for workers; holiday bonuses for online driver and courier partners; and the implementation of work-from-anywhere (WFA) arrangements for five days for both civil servants and private sector employees.
