Jakarta — The Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) DKI Jakarta, Diana Dewi, has emphasised that strengthening local entrepreneurs is an important strategy for fortifying regional economic resilience.

“If local entrepreneurs are strong, Jakarta’s economy will move from within. Money circulates in this city, jobs are created and the economic impact is directly felt by society,” Diana said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to her, Jakarta as the nation’s economic centre has enormous potential from local business actors who have long been the backbone of the region’s economic activities.

With appropriate policy support, she stated, local entrepreneurs can create a multiplier effect for Jakarta’s economy, ranging from increased investment, job creation to strengthening the ecosystem of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and industry.

Furthermore, supporting local entrepreneurs does not mean closing off foreign investment opportunities, but rather ensuring that Jakarta’s business players become an integral part of the region’s economic development.

“Jakarta is not short of investors. But Jakarta must ensure its own entrepreneurs advance and become part of this city’s economic growth,” Diana said.

The meeting, which was part of the KADIN DKI Jakarta board agenda for the 2024-2029 tenure, was held in accordance with KADIN’s articles of association.

At the forum, KADIN DKI Jakarta made several important decisions, ranging from the year’s organisational policy, establishment of work programmes to approval of the organisation’s budget for fiscal year 2026.

Through this second expanded plenary session (Rapimprov II), KADIN DKI Jakarta aims to produce strategic policy recommendations that can strengthen local entrepreneurs as pillars of the regional economy whilst encouraging more inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Jakarta.

The forum also served as an opportunity for consolidation between government, the business community and other stakeholders in building a stronger Jakarta economic ecosystem that is competitive and capable of facing global economic challenges.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that his administration will launch various programmes to continue stimulating Jakarta’s economy and other surrounding regions.

“One of them is that we are campaigning for citizens of Singapore, Malaysia or Thailand to be able to spend more time and money in Indonesia,” Pramono said.
