Central Sulawesi — The development of durian commodities in Parigi Moutong Regency has again attracted public attention following a Working Committee (Panja) of the Regional House of Representatives’ submission of a supervisory report on durian packing house operations.

The report contained several observations regarding legal aspects, business governance, and partnership patterns with farmers.

In response, Faradiba Zaenong, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Indonesia (KADIN) in Parigi Moutong Regency, emphasised that KADIN remains committed to accelerating investment and developing the durian sector as a regional flagship commodity.

According to Faradiba, the presence of several packing house companies in Parigi Moutong forms part of efforts to add value to durian commodities so as to benefit farmers whilst strengthening the regional economy. “KADIN actually plays a role in promoting and assisting investment acceleration, including providing guidance to companies so that the licensing process can proceed in accordance with regulations,” she stated.

She explained that KADIN has consistently acted as a business partner assisting entrepreneurs in understanding investment mechanisms and licensing procedures so that business activities can operate in compliance with applicable regulations.

According to her, several durian packing house companies in Parigi Moutong have essentially begun operations on the basis of initial licensing such as holding a Business Identification Number (NIB). Meanwhile, further licensing processes fall under the authority of government agencies at the provincial and ministerial levels in accordance with applicable regulations. “We actually encourage companies to complete all their licensing officially in accordance with the mechanisms established by the government,” Faradiba clarified.

She also appreciated several companies judged to be committed to implementing government supervision and completing licensing in stages so that business activities proceed in compliance with regulations. However, she also cautioned all parties to exercise care in making public statements, particularly those concerning the naming of associations or non-governmental organisations.

According to her, attributing the name of an association without clear basis can create misperceptions among the public and business actors. “Mentioning or attributing the names of associations and non-governmental organisations without clear basis is certainly regrettable. This not only can create misunderstandings among the public and business actors, but also potentially enters the realm of defamation,” she stressed.

She added that KADIN is a business organisation with a clear legal foundation, established pursuant to Law Number 1 of 1987 concerning the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In its capacity, KADIN functions as a platform for the business community whilst serving as a strategic partner of the government in promoting economic growth and investment.
