Jusuf Hamka Field shelters Kemayoran fire victims
Temporary shelters have been set up to prevent residents from congregating on streets and to allow rest.
Jusuf Hamka Field on Benyamin Suaeb Street has been designated as the evacuation site to facilitate effective data collection and emergency aid coordination for the fire disaster in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Director General of Regional Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal ZA, stated that the evacuation facilities were prepared with support from multiple parties.
“The temporary shelters are set up to keep residents off the streets and allow rest, with logistics provided by BPBD in collaboration with the Social Affairs Office, Red Cross, and Baznas,” Safrizal explained in Jakarta early Tuesday morning.
Three tents have been provided by the Jakarta Social Affairs Office, and several logistics vehicles from the Red Cross and BPBD have arrived at the site.
Currently, in-depth data collection is underway for affected residents in two neighbourhood units (RW), namely RW 04 covering five neighbourhood blocks (RT 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16) and RW 05 covering three RTs (01, 02, and 03).
Safrizal explained that the data will include school-age details to ensure children’s educational needs are met.
After the emergency situation concludes, the government will conduct a building inventory and discuss long-term measures for residents. “Only after all emergencies are resolved will we discuss the process for residents, including possible relocation to safer housing,” Safrizal added.
The fire, which broke out in the densely populated Kampung Pasar Haji Ung area on Kemayoran Gempol Street, Kebon Kosong, Central Jakarta, began around 8.55pm on Monday 1 June 2026.
Jakarta’s Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat) deployed 35 fire trucks and 165 personnel to extinguish the blaze, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Head of Jakarta’s Fire and Rescue Department, Bayu Meghantara, confirmed adequate water sources at the scene.
“Alhamdulillah, water supply is sufficient,” Bayu said.
He also confirmed responders were swift in assisting residents requiring medical aid.
“Some residents were taken to hospital for minor injuries and smoke inhalation,” Bayu added.
During firefighting efforts, residents were seen moving valuables to Jusuf Hamka Field.
One resident and Secretary of RT 12-16 in RW 04 Kebon Kosong, Supriatin, recounted the panic as flames spread to his home.
“I had just returned from driving a motorcycle taxi, and the fire was already large. I panicked because my wife was sick at home,” Supriatin said.
Supriatin added his wife experienced difficulty breathing due to thick smoke at the scene, but all three family members were safe.
According to current data, the disaster is estimated to have affected approximately 250 homes and 330 households.
Authorities continue to manage the situation and conduct data collection at the site, with firefighting and cooling operations ongoing until 2.07am.
