Thousands of residents from various regions in South Kalimantan flocked to the Syamsudin Noor Air Base in Banjarbaru to witness an air display by the Indonesian Air Force’s Jupiter Aerobatic Team (JAT). The aerial manoeuvres performed by seven KT-1B Woong Bee aircraft drew admiration from the public. Many captured the rare moment, including South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin and regional leadership coordination forum members, who braved the heat to watch the Open Base JAT Display during the team’s transit return from Brunei Darussalam at the Syamsudin Noor apron on Wednesday (3/6). The JAT had previously performed representing Indonesia at the 65th Brunei Armed Force Anniversary 2026 in Brunei Darussalam. Syamsudin Noor Air Base Commander, Colonel PNB Hilman L. P. Ambarita, stated that the Jupiter Aerobatic Team is a team using Indonesian Air Force trainer aircraft and was honoured to represent Indonesia at the Royal Brunei Armed Forces anniversary celebration. ‘The arrival of the Jupiter Aerobatic Team from Yogyakarta involves Air Force trainer aircraft, representing the Indonesian nation performing in Brunei from 31 May to 2 June 2026,’ he said. After their ferry flight transit in South Kalimantan, the JAT will continue their journey to Surabaya before flying back to their home base in Yogyakarta. South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin expressed delight at the high public enthusiasm from various regions attending to witness the JAT’s air display live. ‘We appreciate the Jupiter Aerobatic Team for taking the time to perform an air display for the community,’ he stated. The Open Base JAT Display was a particular attraction for the people of South Kalimantan. Besides watching aircraft manoeuvres up close, residents also had the opportunity to become more familiar with the capabilities and professionalism of the Indonesian Air Force through the aerobatic team. One of the 13 JAT pilots, Captain Pnb Timothy, expressed his happiness over the smooth mission in Brunei and the extraordinary welcome from the people of South Kalimantan. This was the second time JAT landed in Lambung Mangkurat, following a previous visit in 2024. ‘It was incredibly busy. Many people came, thank you for supporting JAT, and the mission to Brunei was a success,’ said Captain Pnb Timothy. Meanwhile, Meilida, a resident of Marabahan in Barito Kuala Regency, travelled a long distance to fulfil her child’s dream of watching the JAT display at Syamsudin Noor Air Base. Meilida brought her two children, who greatly idolise The Jupiters. She had even bought a JAT pilot costume for her child during the team’s 2024 visit.
