Judicial Commission examines Depok district court leadership; organisation says mere arrest already constitutes ethics violation
Jakarta — Vice Chair of the Judicial Commission (KY) Desmihardi stated that Depok District Court (PN) Chief I Wayan Eka Mariarta and Vice Chief Bambang Setyawan can be considered to have violated ethics standards given their arrest in a recent anti-corruption operation (OTT).
However, Desmihardi emphasised that the KY will continue to investigate the ethics violation allegations facing both Wayan and Bambang.
“From an ethics perspective, we believe that the mere conduct of an OTT operation already constitutes an ethics violation in our view. Therefore, this requires further investigation. Further investigation is needed,” Desmihardi stated at KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Desmihardi indicated that the findings from the examination of both judges will be discussed at a KY plenary session, after which the KY will formulate recommendations to be submitted to the Supreme Court (MA).
“Regarding the recommendations to be given to the Supreme Court, we will support—very much support—the position of the Chief Justice of having zero tolerance towards transactional conduct,” Desmihardi said.
Wayan, Bambang, and Depok Court Officer Yohansyah Maruanaya were arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in an anti-corruption operation on 5 February 2026.
Additionally, the KPK arrested the Chief Executive Officer of PT Karabha Digdaya Trisnadi and the company’s Head of Corporate Legal, Berliana Tri Kusuma.
All five have been designated as suspects in an alleged bribery case related to the handling of a land dispute between PT Karabha Digdaya and residents at Depok District Court.
