Judicial Commission Examines Depok District Court Leaders; KPK: Synergy Ensures Clean Justice System
The Judicial Commission (KY) conducted an examination on Friday (13 March) of I Wayan Eka Mariarta (EKA), inactive chief of Depok District Court (PN), and Bambang Setyawan (BBG), inactive vice-chief of PN Depok. The examination concerns alleged bribery in a land dispute case currently under investigation.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) viewed the KY’s action as demonstrating cross-institutional commitment in preserving the integrity of Indonesia’s judicial system from corrupt practices. “This synergy is part of a shared commitment to ensure a clean, integrity-focused justice system capable of maintaining public trust,” stated KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo in a written statement on Friday (13 March).
Law Enforcement and Ethical Accountability Working in Tandem
Budi emphasised that the KY’s examination correlates strongly with the KPK’s efforts to eradicate corruption in the legal sector. According to him, judicial integrity is a fundamental pillar that must be safeguarded through strict oversight.
“Law enforcement carried out by the KPK in alleged instances of corrupt conduct must proceed in tandem with ethical enforcement by institutions with authority to oversee judges, so that the integrity of the judicial system can be maintained,” Budi stated firmly.
The KPK further confirmed that coordination with the KY in this land dispute case will continue. Both institutions are committed to supporting each other within their respective mandates, both from criminal and professional ethics perspectives.
“Going forward, the KPK will continue to coordinate and work in synergy with the Judicial Commission in supporting the handling of the case underway, whilst strengthening efforts to prevent corruption in the judicial sector,” Budi added.
The examination of these court leaders follows a broader effort to cleanse the judicial sector of external interference in land dispute cases. The KY has stated its readiness to strengthen the judicial oversight system, emphasising the need for preventive measures and integrity reinforcement from judicial recruitment through promotion.
