Judge adjouns students' trial
JAKARTA (JP): Judge Moegihardjo of the South Jakarta District
Court yesterday adjourned until march 23 the trial of six of the
12 National University students accused of destroying campus
property and assaulting members of the university's student
regiment.
"The trial has been postponed because witnesses who were
expected to appear in court have not come, and I adjourn the
trial until March 23," the judge said.
The six defendants, who were scheduled to be tried yesterday,
are Yahdi Djamhur, Reza Pahlevi, Darmawan Bahtiar, Rakai Aria
Dipa Erlangga, Benedictus Satrio Widyanarto and Budi Murdiyanto.
They and the other six defendants -- all members of the
Association of Nature Lovers (Himpala) -- who are accused of
assaulting four members of the university's student regiment and
of burning down the regiment's headquarters on Oct. 18 last year.
The alleged attack came after regiment members reportedly
destroyed the association's secretariat on Oct. 14.
Meanwhile, at the Central Jakarta District Court today judge
Tuaradja Siregar is scheduled to announce his verdict in the case
of the son of the leader of a powerful youth organization who
allegedly attacked and wounded the son of the Minister of
Manpower, Abdul Latief. (mas)
