Candidates line up for Jambi election

JAMBI: Although the registration for candidates in Jambi's gubernatorial election does not open until Feb. 20, several people already have confirmed they will contest the election.

The candidates include Zulkifli Nurdin, the former governor whose term ended on Dec. 10 last year, and Marzuki Usman, a former minister of tourism. Zulkifli will represent the National Mandate Party (PAN), while Marzuki is from the National Awakening Party (PKB).

"The party is still considering the right person to be the vice governor candidate. His name will be announced shortly," Zulkifli said on Friday.

Marzuki has also yet to name a running mate. -- JP

Police to lead grilling of regents

KUPANG: Police officers will question Kupang Regent Ibrahim Agustinus Medah and Rote Ndao Regent Christian Nehemia Dillak as witnesses in a Rp 829 million graft case involving the procurement of a fishing vessel.

Kupang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. JB. Gebana will lead the 10-member team questioning the regents. The team will include officers from the East Nusa Tenggara provincial police and the local Kupang Police.

Gebana said the two regents would be sent summonses and the questioning would take place early next week.

"We received a letter of permission (from the President to question the regents) at noon local time on Thursday and we immediately set up the interrogation team," he said.

The investigation of the case was delayed because the two regents could not be questioned without first receiving permission from the President. -- JP
