Street children come together to enjoy communal meal

Reports have circulated recently about the incidence of
malnutrition in Indonesian children, a cause of much concern.

Care of Kids Ministry, a non-governmental organization engaged
in social activities with a focus on health service for street
children, homeless people as well as the poor and disadvantaged,
launched a program for the distribution of healthy and nutritious
food on the banks of the Grogol River, West Jakarta, on July 2.

It was part of the group's Love Street Children movement.

During the program, nutritious food was provided for homeless
people and street children in the area, totaling around 250.

Instead of distributing the food in boxes, members of Care of
Kids Ministry doled out rice, vegetables and side dishes on
plates to them directly. Volunteers and invitees later joined
them in the meal.

"Togetherness" was the theme adopted for the program, which
aimed at familiarizing people with the life of street children,
while empathizing with and caring for them at the same time.

"Through this program, we hope we can all be more sensitive
and take greater care. Let's join hands to heighten our concern
for the well-being of our fellow citizens and the environment,"
said chairperson of Care of Kids Ministry Lidya Mantiri.

Photos of the event are shown below in comemmoration of
National Chidren's Day, which falls on Saturday.
