Jokowi Welcomes Iranian Ambassador, Embraces Call for Peace and End to War
President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo has warmly welcomed the peace campaign initiated by Iran and called for the immediate cessation of war to foster true peace in the international arena. This statement was made by Jokowi following a visit for Eid al-Fitr greetings and halal bihalal with the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, at his residence in Sumber, Solo, on Wednesday (1/4).
According to the father of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, numerous topics were discussed during the approximately one-hour meeting with the Iranian Ambassador.
“The main point is that we want to maintain good diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Iran,” Jokowi explained after the meeting.
He stated that the meeting proceeded in a warm atmosphere of friendship between Indonesia and Iran, which is highly beneficial for economic and geopolitical relations.
“We discussed many things to convey to the government,” Jokowi added.
Regarding the message and the push for the peace campaign amid Iran’s war against the Israel-United States coalition, he firmly welcomed it.
“The campaign to stop the war is very good,” Jokowi stated directly.
In his view, the global world needs a peaceful environment, with good relations between nations, to achieve prosperity and a stable global economy.
International friendship can be realised if there is no war, which in turn prevents issues such as energy and oil shortages.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, said that support from a figure of Jokowi’s stature, who served as the 7th President of Indonesia, is greatly needed by Iran, which is currently forced into war with Zionist Israel and the United States. During the meeting with Jokowi, Boroujerdi reported the latest conditions in Iran, which has been attacked by Israel and the United States.
“Mr Jokowi expressed solidarity and support for our country,” the Iranian Ambassador revealed.
Additionally, Mohammad Boroujerdi conveyed condolences for the deaths of three Indonesian soldiers serving in the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon.
“We extend our condolences for the heinous attack by Israel on the peacekeepers in Lebanon, which killed three Indonesian members of the peacekeeping force,” he continued.
Clearly, his visit to Jokowi’s residence occurred because Iran highly appreciates Jokowi’s leadership, which is considered accomplished both in Indonesia’s rapid development and in its international relations, particularly with Iran.
The Iranian Ambassador noted that in 2023, Jokowi visited Iran, which was reciprocated by a visit from Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has since become a martyr due to a US attack some time ago.
