The Chairman of the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Djarot Syaiful Hidayat, suspects former President Joko Widodo’s planned nationwide tour is linked to clarifying the lingering public controversy over his alleged fake diploma. The former Jakarta governor added that Jokowi is free to proceed with his visits to various regions.

“Perhaps to neutralise the issue, he will present his original diploma to end the ongoing debate, for instance. So, go ahead,” Djarot said during a PDIP technical guidance session for DPRD members in North Jakarta on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

According to Djarot, Jokowi should explain and show the public that he possesses the genuine diploma as an alumnus of Gadjah Mada University. He considers this the most straightforward way to resolve the dispute regarding the authenticity of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s father’s diploma.

“Show the diploma. It’s simplest—no need for courtroom drama,” he added.

Djarot stated that Jokowi’s trips to West Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and Lampung pose no issue for PDIP. He believes the party will grow more united in consolidating internal structures as Jokowi conducts outreach with the Solidarity Party (PSI).

“In fact, his visits to various regions will strengthen our party. Our party will become more cohesive internally and in grassroots engagement. So, he is free to travel wherever,” Djarot said.

Jokowi confirmed his readiness to tour Indonesia’s regions once his health has recovered. He stated the agenda is not a pre-planned trip but a response to public invitations across the country.

“This is because I have many invitations from regions to attend, from the public,” Jokowi said during a meeting in Solo, Central Java, on Monday, 25 May 2026, after returning from Jakarta.

The seventh president of Indonesia did not deny meeting PSI cadres and supporters in various regions during his visits, describing it as a form of kinship. “It’s also to motivate and meet PSI members locally, as well as supporters. Yes, because there are invitations,” he added.

Previously, PSI’s Acting Chairman Ahmad Ali stated that PSI cadres in the regions are prepared to welcome Jokowi if the nationwide tour proceeds. He noted that Jokowi’s arrival would be greeted by party members nationwide. Jokowi is expected to begin his outreach in early June 2026, with West Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and Lampung as initial destinations.
