Jokowi Claims He Did Not Sign Revised KPK Law; Democrat Party: That Does Not Mean Rejection!
Jakarta — Member of House Commission III Hinca Panjaitan has responded to former President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) claim that he did not sign the revised KPK Law.
According to Hinca, the fact that the law was not signed after being ratified in a House plenary session does not mean Jokowi rejected the KPK Law.
He also stated that a law cannot be completed by the House of Representatives alone, as it requires government involvement to finalise it.
“Regarding the signature — whether it is signed or not, it still takes effect. It is the President’s obligation to sign it. If he does not sign it, he is actually reneging on his obligation,” Hinca told reporters at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, as quoted on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
“So that does not constitute rejection. Because if it were a rejection, it should have been done at the first-level deliberations, or at minimum during the plenary session where the final decision was taken,” he added.
The Democrat Party politician himself expressed bewilderment at Jokowi’s claim of non-involvement in the revision of the KPK Law, given that the government had been involved in deliberations from the outset.
“So if his reasoning is ‘I did not sign it, therefore I was not involved’ — I think that is a grave error. We were there together in the discussions, and those deliberations were highly significant, with dialogue involving both government and House representatives,” he said.
Furthermore, Hinca described Jokowi’s claim of non-involvement in the KPK Law revision as excessive, noting that the government’s official response was read out during the deliberations.
“The government’s response was read out — he agreed with it. He even thanked the House for conducting the deliberations. That is how it was. We may debate the substance, but to claim non-involvement seems excessive,” Hinca concluded.
It was previously reported that Jokowi had endorsed a proposal by former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad to restore the KPK Law to its original version. Jokowi pointed out that the revised version was initiated by the House.
“Yes, I agree — it would be good to return the KPK Law to the old version — because the revision was a House initiative. Let there be no mistake: it was a House initiative,” Jokowi said on Friday, 13 February 2026.
