President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Indonesia’s seventh president, performed the Eid al-Adha prayer on Wednesday (27 May) at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Solo, Central Java. He was accompanied by his wife, Iriana, his brother-in-law and former Constitutional Court judge Anwar Usman, and Anwar’s wife, Idayati. The group arrived at around 5:47 AM WIB.

Jokowi wore a white koko shirt paired with a batik sarong, while Anwar Usman chose a koko shirt and black trousers. His arrival generated enthusiasm among worshippers, many of whom approached to shake hands and take photos.

Upon entering the mosque, the party split into designated rows. Jokowi and Anwar Usman joined the men’s prayer line, while Iriana and Idayati moved to the women’s section. The prayer was led by Imam Drs. KH. Ibrahim Asfari, SH., Al-Hafidz, with the sermon delivered by khatib Munajat.

After the ceremony, Jokowi promptly left the main hall, remaining friendly as he posed for selfies with worshippers along the path to his vehicle. During his exit, Jokowi shared his thoughts on the significance of this year’s Eid al-Adha: “The essence of Eid al-Adha is sacrifice and sharing for humanity,” he replied succinctly.

Anwar Usman also reflected on the religious message, stating that Eid al-Adha is a crucial moment to strengthen commitment to serving the nation. “Insha’Allah, as mentioned in the sermon, we must be ready to sacrifice for the country and nation,” he said. When asked about his current residence after retiring from the Constitutional Court, Anwar diplomatically replied, “Everywhere,” before ending the conversation.
