Joint Declaration on the Implementation of Nyepi 2026 in Bali: Contents and PDF Download Link
Hindu devotees will commemorate Nyepi 2026 on 19 March. The Forum for Religious Harmony of Bali Province, together with the Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Bali Province, and with the knowledge of the Governor of Bali, the Head of the Bali Regional Police, and the Commander of the 163/Wira Satya Military Resort Command, have issued a joint declaration on the implementation of Nyepi 2026 in Bali.
This is set out in the Joint Declaration on the Implementation of the Sacred Day of Nyepi in Çaka Year 1948/Year 2026, which coincides with the evening of Takbiran for Eid al-Fitr in Hijri Year 1447/Anno Domini 2026. The key points of the Joint Declaration are as follows:
Hindu devotees shall observe all aspects of the Sacred Day of Nyepi in Çaka Year 1948 with reverence and devotion, including: Melasti, Pangrupukan, Sipeng (Catur Brata Penyepian), and Ngembak Geni with reverence and solemnity.
All land, sea and air transport service providers are not permitted to operate during the implementation of Catur Brata Penyepian, commencing from Thursday, 19 March 2026 at 06.00 WITA until Friday, 20 March 2026 at 06.00 WITA.
Radio Broadcasting Institutions and Television Broadcasting Institutions are not permitted to broadcast during the implementation of the Sacred Day of Nyepi, commencing from Thursday, 19 March 2026 at 06.00 WITA until Friday, 20 March 2026 at 06.00 WITA.
Cellular telecommunications service providers shall deactivate cellular data services, and all television service providers shall not distribute broadcasts during the implementation of Nyepi as per the specified timeframe, whilst maintaining emergency communication services.
All members of the public and tourists are not permitted to travel or leave their homes, nor to set off firecrackers or fireworks, use loudspeakers, make loud noises, use excessive lighting, or engage in any other activity that may disrupt the solemnity of the Sacred Day of Nyepi and public order.
Business operators providing accommodation services, entertainment services, and managers of tourist destinations in Bali are not permitted to promote business activities using branding or commercial activities in the name of the Sacred Day of Nyepi.
Given that the Sacred Day of Nyepi in Çaka Year 1948 coincides with the evening of Takbiran for Eid al-Fitr in Hijri Year 1447, the following provisions apply:
Muslims are permitted to perform takbiran at the nearest mosque or prayer hall on foot, without the use of loudspeakers, without setting off firecrackers or fireworks or making other loud noises, and using adequate lighting, from 18.00 WITA until 21.00 WITA.
The security and order of the takbiran observance shall be the responsibility of the respective mosque or prayer hall administrators, whilst coordinating with the local security authorities.
Traditional village leaders, mosque or prayer hall administrators, security volunteers, civil defence volunteers, and village/municipal officials are responsible for jointly maintaining the security and order of the Nyepi observance and takbiran activities in their respective areas, by coordinating synergistically with security authorities.
Religious councils, religious social organisations, and relevant institutions shall disseminate this Joint Declaration to all religious communities in Bali in a structured and sustained manner.
All members of the public, business operators, and tourists in Bali Province are obliged to comply with and implement this Joint Declaration with full awareness and responsibility.
