Join the Hajj Oversight Team, DPR Seeks More Comprehensive Cross-Sector Oversight
The involvement of DPR RI Commission III in the Hajj Oversight Team (Timwas Haji) marks the legislature’s commitment to strengthening oversight of services for Indonesian pilgrims performing the Hajj in the Holy Land. This was stated by Muhammad Nasir Djamil, a member of the DPR Commission III and of the Hajj Oversight Team for 2026, just before departing for Mecca at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
According to the member of the DPR Commission III, the Hajj pilgrimage involves millions of people and requires cross-commission oversight to comprehensively evaluate every service aspect. He said: “We expect all commissions to be involved in supervising the Hajj implementation because it involves a large number of people.”
Each commission will assess which aspects require evaluation and subsequent improvements so that the quality of government services to Hajj pilgrims can be optimised. The presence of all commissions in the DPR RI Hajj Oversight Team reflects Parliament’s responsibility to ensure the Hajj arrangement proceeds smoothly and pilgrims receive quality services.
“This is a form of the DPR’s commitment to ensuring that the Hajj pilgrimage runs smoothly every year. The services provided by the government to citizens undertaking the Hajj in the Holy Land must be of high quality,” he said.
The Timwas oversight will focus on several key sectors, including accommodation, transportation, health, and services during peak periods at Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna). The oversight is intended to prevent the recurrent issues faced by pilgrims, especially mobility and transport problems, from reoccurring in this year’s Hajj season.
“Let there not be again news that our Hajj pilgrims have to walk on foot while transport is available but cannot be used due to crowded conditions there,” he added. Nasir expressed hope that all Hajj services this year will be more orderly to spare pilgrims from difficulties during the pilgrimage in the Holy Land.
