Jogja Meat Grinding Services See Surge in Demand During Eid al-Adha
The 2026 Eid al-Adha celebrations have brought significant business to meat grinding services in Jogja, with hundreds of customers visiting daily. One such facility in Pakuncen, Wirobrajan, Jogja, saw staff continuously grinding meat into mince on Thursday (28 May 2026), with customers arriving in a steady stream. Joko, son of the business owner, reported a surge in customers during Eid al-Adha. While usual clients were bakso vendors, the general public has also flooded the service kios. ‘We usually only serve bakso vendors, but now we’re catering to the general public too. The increase is clear,’ said Joko. Joko explained that the facility normally operates from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM, but during Eid al-Adha, hours extend into the afternoon due to high demand. ‘Today, we started at 3:00 AM and will close at 4:00 PM. Normally, we’re open from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM,’ he added. He noted many residents opt for meatballs or sambal goreng as alternatives to rendang and gulai. Customers bring varying quantities, from 1kg to several buckets of meat. ‘People get tired of just rendang and gulai, so they opt for meatballs and sambal goreng,’ he explained. Prices start at Rp 15,000 per kg for meat grinding. Joko said queues formed before dawn, with hundreds of customers daily during Eid al-Adha. ‘Many were queuing by 4:00 AM. Hundreds of customers daily,’ he stated. Despite the crowds, the grinding process is quick as customers only require mincing and spice mixing. They can wait on-site, with queues rarely exceeding an hour. ‘It’s quick—15 minutes usually—but if busy, up to an hour,’ he concluded.
