Job Hunting Becomes Increasingly Difficult as Humans Said to Be Unprepared for New Era
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is having a major impact on the job market. Several companies frequently cite AI as a reason for conducting mass redundancies and slowing recruitment.
People are being called upon to adapt, including familiarising themselves with using AI in their work and daily lives. However, it appears that people are not yet prepared to fill the job opportunities that AI may create.
“AI will create many job opportunities and we as a society are not yet prepared to fill those opportunities,” said BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, cited by Semafor on Friday (13 March 2026).
Additionally, according to him, the greatest impact will be felt by those who have just graduated from university, as unemployment rates are highest among the age category of recent graduates.
Penta Group CEO Matt McDonald said there will be generational conflict when job opportunities disappear for young people.
“The loss of job opportunities for postgraduate graduates and ageing baby boomers living in four-bedroom homes due to interest rates is a recipe for triggering generational conflict,” he explained.
In fact, it is far easier to find work in the knowledge-based economy sector that has been battered by the AI storm. Conversely, it will be more difficult to work in jobs created by this technology.
Semafor stressed the importance of companies considering ideas to address this issue.
