JK: Indonesian Soldiers Who Fell in Lebanon are Heroes of World Peace
Jakarta - The Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Jusuf Kalla (JK), described the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers who fell while carrying out a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon as heroes of world peace. In his statement, JK emphasised that the fallen soldiers are not only fighters for the nation but also a symbol of Indonesia’s dedication to the world. “I extend my deepest condolences. They are heroes of peace who have sacrificed their lives and bodies for humanity and global stability,” JK said in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. The TNI soldiers were known to be serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), one of the United Nations peacekeeping operations in a conflict-prone area. He assessed that the presence of the TNI in international peacekeeping missions serves as concrete evidence of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world order in accordance with the constitutional mandate. “Their dedication is not only for Indonesia but for all of humanity. This is a great loss, but also a pride for the nation,” he stated. The incident of the TNI soldiers’ deaths once again reminds the public of the significant risks faced by Indonesian peacekeeping forces in conflict areas. Nevertheless, Indonesia remains consistent in sending contingents to various UN missions as part of its active contribution to maintaining global peace. JK also invited the public to pray for the fallen soldiers and provide moral support to the families left behind.
