Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jusuf Kalla, who served as the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, said that as the world’s largest Muslim country, Indonesia should take a firm stance on the conflict involving Iran, particularly if the country is attacked.

In a written statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, JK said Indonesia needed to demonstrate its solidarity with the country that had become a victim of the attacks.

He argued that such a stance was important so that Indonesia could remain consistent in promoting cooperation with countries in Asia and the Islamic world.

“As a country that is attacked and persecuted, Indonesia must have a stance. Logically, we must side with the country that is attacked,” JK said.

JK added that Indonesia’s position as the world’s largest Muslim country is expected to have a clear position in responding to conflicts involving Islamic countries.

Moreover, JK argued that Indonesia should not remain neutral without showing support. And the matter of this conflict should be discussed and its solutions sought in international forums such as the Board of Peace.

“If it cannot be resolved through a peace forum, what is the point of us being part of it? In other words, Indonesia must voice a firm stance,” JK said in the statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

He delivered the statement in the context of rising geopolitical tensions involving several countries in the Middle East region, during a breaking-fast event with members of the Korps Alumni Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (KAHMI) at an iftar gathering in the Jakarta area on Friday.
