JIS Station Access to Operate Soon, KAI Strengthens Cross-Tanjung Priok Connectivity Amid Continued Growth
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is continuing to accelerate the final phase of construction for the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) Station to provide a more efficient transport solution to the northern Jakarta area. This strategic agenda of KAI is the result of close collaboration with stakeholders, such as the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, in expanding public accessibility.
By April 2026, progress on the JIS Station construction is on target, with completion planned for May 2026 and operations commencing to serve passengers in June 2026. The presence of this station will provide significant benefits to the public in directly accessing the sports and residential areas, while also serving as an effective solution to reduce traffic congestion.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, explained that the operation of the JIS Station will further strengthen services on the Tanjung Priok line, which has shown a consistent trend of growth in KRL commuter volumes. Recorded in 2022, the user volume was 1,599,107 people, increasing to 2,676,363 users in 2023, and continuing to grow to 3,377,633 users in 2024. This positive trend continued in 2025 with a total of 3,531,311 users, while for the period from January to March 2026, the user volume has reached 873,658 people.
“The significant growth in KRL service users demonstrates that rail services are increasingly becoming the primary choice. KAI, together with DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation, KAI Commuter, and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, continues to synergise to ensure that the construction of the JIS Station becomes the answer to the need for better intermodal integration in Jakarta,” said Anne.
This increase in operational capacity is supported by infrastructure enhancements carried out by KAI in collaboration with DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation. Through the electrification programme and the construction of a double track spanning 8.115 kilometres between Jakarta Kota and Tanjung Priok, the reliability of services on the northern line is now more optimal for customers.
“KAI through KAI Commuter focuses on providing transport services that benefit the public. With the operational readiness of the JIS Station and the strengthening of infrastructure on the northern line, fully supported by all stakeholders, we project that the contribution of rail to the smooth mobility of residents will be even greater,” said Anne.
