The Indonesian National Police (Polri) arrested Jimmy Lie, a fugitive wanted in a land certification bribery case involving the Comprehensive Systematic Land Registration (PTSL) programme in Tangerang regency. Lie was apprehended in Malaysia on Sunday, 8 March.

“Jimmy Lie is a suspect in a bribery case involving the administration of land certificates through the Comprehensive Systematic Land Registration (PTSL) programme in Tangerang regency,” said Tangerang City Metro Police Chief Kombes Raden Muhammad Jauhari in a statement on Monday, 9 March.

Jauhari explained that the case against Lie originated in 2022. The case began when suspect Hasbullah allegedly requested assistance from the then-village head of Kalibaru, H Sueb, to upgrade the land status of a property owned by Jimmy Lie through the PTSL programme.

“During this process, there allegedly occurred bribery practices to accelerate the processing of documents for the upgrade of land rights held by Jimmy Lie and other related parties,” he stated.

Jauhari disclosed that Jimmy Lie bribed the village head with Rp960 million to facilitate the processing of the documentation.

The matter had previously been processed through the legal system and implicated several other suspects. Four individuals have been tried and convicted at the Serang Corruption Court in Banten.

During the investigation process, Jimmy Lie failed to respond to police summons and it became apparent that he had left Indonesia.

“Jimmy Lie did not comply with investigator summons and was discovered to have left Indonesia whilst the prevention and prohibition procedures were underway,” Jauhari said.

Based on this, investigators subsequently placed Jimmy Lie on the wanted persons list (DPO). Additionally, Tangerang City Metro Police also requested the issuance of a red notice for Jimmy Lie through the Polri International Relations Division.

Jimmy Lie has been listed on Interpol’s red notice since 22 September 2025. After nearly six months, Jimmy Lie was detected in Malaysia and successfully apprehended last Sunday.

“The suspect will subsequently be handed over to the Public Prosecutor for further legal proceedings,” Jauhari said.
