Jimly States Prabowo Orders Limitation on Police Positions Outside Polri

The Polri Reform Acceleration Commission has stated that President Prabowo Subianto agrees that police positions outside the Polri institution must be limited.

“The final point concerns the regulation of limitations on positions that can be held by Polri outside the police structure,” said the Chair of the Polri Reform Acceleration Commission, Jimly Asshiddiqie, after meeting Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

“The President has decided that specific positions must be determined limitatively, as in the TNI Law. So not like now, with no restrictions,” said Jimly.

The regulation limiting positions for police outside Polri will be enacted in the form of a Government Regulation and a Law.

“It has been decided that it will be included in the law preparation process, and there is even now a draft law ready for discussion in the DPR, where these new points from the Reform Commission will be inserted,” said Jimly.

Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the Minister of Law and Human Rights who is one of the commission members, explained that the limitation on police positions will also be included in the revision of the Polri Law.

“Particularly regarding Kompolnas, and the placement of police outside policing duties. That will be emphasised in the law,” said Yusril.
