Jember Regent Inspects Investment in PT Nankai Indonesia Plywood Factory
Jember – The Regent of Jember Regency, Muhamad Fawait, directly inspected the activities of the foreign investment company (PMA) PT Nankai Indonesia in Garahan Village, Silo Subdistrict, on Saturday (14/3/2026).
The visit was conducted together with several heads of Regional Device Organisations (OPD). On that occasion, the entourage directly observed the plywood or triplek production process, which uses sengon wood as raw material from local community cultivation.
The Regent and the entourage toured the factory to witness the production stages, from raw material processing to the final product ready for market.
According to Fawait, the presence of the company owned by Japanese investors is a positive signal for investment development in Jember Regency. He mentioned that the investment value planted in the company reaches around US$10 million.
“This is a pride for Jember because there is an addition of new foreign investment entering our region,” said Fawait.
He explained that the company is currently operating with one work shift and has employed around 250 workers.
“Of that number, around 80 percent are Jember residents, especially people living around the factory location. Meanwhile, a small portion of workers are still brought in from outside the area due to specific expertise needs,” he revealed.
Fawait hopes that the presence of the company can provide significant economic impact for the community, especially in opening up job opportunities.
He added that the Jember Regency Government will continue to encourage investment growth as one strategy to reduce poverty rates in the area.
“In addition to through government spending, investment is also very important because it can create new job opportunities,” he stated.
Fawait also revealed that the Jember Regency Government is currently finalising the Regional Regulation on the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW), which is expected to further support the entry of investors into the area.
With that regulation, Jember is targeted to become one of the investment growth centres in the eastern part of Java Island.
During the visit, the Regent also invited all OPD heads to demonstrate budget efficiency forms while strengthening cross-sector coordination in supporting the investment climate.
Fawait said that the dynamic global economic conditions are also a concern for the local government. Therefore, several efficiency scenarios are being prepared, including the possibility of implementing flexible work systems such as work from anywhere (WFA) or work from home (WFH).
“The experience during the COVID-19 pandemic showed that flexible work systems can still maintain government performance,” he said.
The working visit activity was then closed with an iftar together between the Jember Regent, OPD officials, and company management in a Ramadan atmosphere.
